The beginning begins in winter…

a path through a wintery scene

It’s Winter in Seattle and in the midst of recuperating from the frenzy of holidays, and the very cold dark days of this new year remember to find your compass. Since, these are times where transition can so easily become upheaval, it’ll be good to have your inner compass on hand to guide you through the transformations at hand. Thus, I’m re-sharing this exercise for finding your compass, it’s best to do the first part on your own with just a 20-minute window so you can keep it manageable. May this help you add a pep to your step as you lumber through the winter. I find having a soothing beverage while doing this a good match. May I suggest some Glycine powder in Mulberry juice? Or a homemade chai with a splash of homemade vanilla?

Get a piece of paper and a pen -remember those? In the first column list all you’ve been putting up with, do it quickly. Then go to the 2nd column, and list all the benefits of putting up with the column 1 items. Then go to the 3rd column and list all of the costs ($, energy, time, distress, etc..) of putting up with the column 1 items. Do each column one at a time. Finish this within 20 mins.

Look over the third column and chose at least one of the most costly in distress and a few that are more minor. These are the ones to focus on resolving over the next few weeks, if it’s easy and fast go back to the list for more things to cross off. For example, if you know who squeezes the toothpaste from the ‘wrong’ end of the tube then replace it with a pump.

And it’s always a good idea to let your family, coworkers and friends know that you’re just reducing your tolerations list.
